Prevention at Altrincham Dental Care.

Prevention and Oral hygiene

The reason that we are such strong advocates of prevention and oral hygiene is that dental decay and tooth loss from gum disease can be prevented and begins with the control of plaque and calculus deposits.

Our experienced team of hygienists will give you an individual, full oral-hygiene programme and together with the dentist, will closely monitor the health of your gums and recommend how often you should be seen at the practice. This will vary from patient to patient since gum disease will affect different people in different ways.

Plaque bacteria cause gum disease and your hygienist will show you how to control this disease by disrupting the bacteria around the gums. Your hygienist will carefully and thoroughly clean and remove harmful plaque and calculus deposits from your teeth to keep them under control. Bacteria are always present in the mouth and it is a matter of keeping the bacteria under control by careful oral hygiene methods. In this way the bacteria will not grow to such a level where they cause damage to the gums and supporting structures of the teeth. Regular visits to the hygienist are vital to maintaining the health of your mouth and to secure a long lasting and functional set of teeth in future years.
